I began life as a broadcast journalist but moved into photography when I had children. I love the flexibility and variety that comes with being freelance. No two jobs are the same, which means I’m always having to stretch my creative muscles. My style is relaxed and mostly reportage, allowing me to capture those moments that best reflect an event or personality.
I have lots of experience styling food and interiors, so if you'd like to find out more, please get in touch. As a trained journalist, I can also produce written content to sit alongside my images: clients often ask me to do both, saving them time and money. I'm very happy to supply samples of my editorial work if you're interested.
I'm lucky to have worked with some fantastic clients including HomeServe, Caterforce, Lakeland Arts, Arighi Bianchi, Just So Festival and Cheshire Life magazine. Over the last ten years I've collaborated with various creative agencies including InEvidence and Big Brand Ideas and worked on large scale commissions for local authorities, arts organisations, schools and colleges as well as Cheshire & Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership.
I love working closely with clients to produce beautiful images that celebrate their brand, ethos or idea.
'Fiona is the ultimate professional. Whether she is photographing staff in the office or out on location in the UK or Europe, her quality is never compromised. She puts people at ease and takes the most beautiful shots that clients always comment on. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Fiona for her skill and professionalism.'
Melissa Talbot, Deputy Managing Director, inEvidence (part of Chime Communications)
'Working with Fiona is always a pleasure. I have worked with her on home interiors shoots and portrait shoots and have always been thrilled with the results. She immediately grasps the brief and has a way of making her subjects feel so quickly at ease that the photos are always fabulous. Fiona is the ultimate professional with such a natural warmth that working together is a joy every time.'
Kate Houghton, Interiors Editor, Cheshire Life
'Fiona is always professional, friendly and engaging and has a lovely way about her which instantly makes you feel comfortable and at ease. She is very accommodating to our needs (we're not always the easiest clients!) and spends time prior to the shoot to understand exactly what is required. Her food photography is always lovely, she has a keen eye for detail and comes up with great creative ideas to style shots. Fiona took our company head shots and even the people who hate having their photos taken were happy! That's all down to Fiona being lovely and warm, putting us all at ease. This made the shots and you can really tell from the finished images.'
Claire Williams, Marketing Manager, Caterforce Ltd.
'Fiona has a rare gift to put me at ease when in front of her camera - I don't even realise when she is taking her shots. But what's perhaps even more important is she has a fantastic eye for the aesthetics of the setting I want to show off; we don't even need to discuss it, she instinctively knows what I'm looking for. To top it off, she always makes sure to include a wealth of different aspects, changing angles and viewpoints as she covers the setting. The results of her careful editing, time and time again, delight me. Coming back to the archive, to pick an image for a media post, is an indulgence. I wholeheartedly recommend Fiona's highly professional yet deeply personal service.'
Brita Hirsch, founder and Director, Hirsch Tailoring
'As chief photographer, Fiona's images captured the spirit as well as the energy of Barnaby. Refreshing and original, her work shaped the look and feel of the festival. From the riotous Barnaby parade to intimate exhibitions in confined spaces, she engages sensitively with her subjects, glimpsing reflection or anticipation as well as joy and laughter. Fiona has the knack of identifying with participants and viewer. She works with us, she doesn't do it to us, and it shows.'
Lynne Jones, Chair Macclesfield Barnaby Festival 2010-16
'Fiona is our first port of call when we need images. She has a real talent for working with children and young people, able to generate eye-catching shots in the dingiest of classrooms! She has a gift for capturing the essence of live events through informal reportage shots, as well as being skilled at setting up more formal arrangements. Fiona's photos are a joy to behold and she is a pleasure to work with - well-organised, efficient, calm, friendly and with an excellent eye for detail. We can't recommend her highly enough.'
Shelley Metcalfe, Founder & Director, DLSC
Fiona's beautiful photographs of Treacle surpassed our expectations and captured the very essence of the informal coming together of people and place. Fiona does this so brilliantly, managing to bring the personality of something static to life. Her keen eye and ability to capture the moment in such a relaxed way are just perfect for us and we use her timeless images over and over again.'
